International cooperation for global health unlocks and catalyses investments, research partnerships and economic opportunities that strengthen Switzerland as a location.
Many health innovations emerge from the interplay between companies,
research institutions, international organisations and partners in countries
of the Global South. At the same time, Switzerland's bilateral cooperation
partnerships help strengthen health systems — creating the conditions for
the sustainable local use of medicines, diagnostics and health technologies.

03 ━ CONTEXT
Why now
Now is the time to shape Switzerland's future role in global health. As Switzerland prepares its International Cooperation Strategy 2029–2032, it will determine the role that global health will play in the country's foreign, innovation and economic policy.
Switzerland is defining how it will safeguard its long-term competitiveness as a global hub for pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. The links between international cooperation, global health and the country's innovation ecosystem deserve greater attention.
International Geneva is facing increasing global competition. The presence of the WHO, the Global Fund, Gavi and numerous other global health organisations provides Switzerland with a unique competitive advantage. Preserving this position requires a clear commitment to global health.
